MART Rovereto Opens Homage to Claudia Gian Ferrari and After Monet Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The MART museum in Rovereto has inaugurated two small but significant exhibitions alongside its main shows. One room is dedicated to Claudia Gian Ferrari, the renowned gallerist and art historian, ten years after her death. The room features paintings from the MART collections by artists she favored, including works by Sironi, Dudreville, and Cagnaccio di San Pietro, as well as extraordinary ceramics by Fausto Melotti, donated to the museum by Gian Ferrari herself. The ceramics, displayed on tables in the center of the room, showcase Melotti's genius and eclecticism, his conceptual search for a new path in sculpture, and his ability to bring a full sculptural-architectural dimension to small works. The paintings range from Sironi's "Periferia con camion" (1920) to Dudreville's "Nudino" (1923) and three disturbing works by Cagnaccio di San Pietro from the 1930s. Meanwhile, the exhibition "After Monet" occupies two rooms at the end of the contemporary art wing, exploring the blurred boundaries between photography and painting. Works include Andres Serrano's "Black Rembrandt," Luigi Veronesi and Wolfgang Tillmans' camera-less photography, Vik Muniz's Monet recreated in Pantone and then photographed, and pieces by Alessandro Calabrese, Umberto Chiodi, Pierre & Gilles, Laurie Simmons, Allan McCollum, Matthew Barney, Alex da Corte, Davide Coltro, Luca Andreoni, and Giovanni Ziliani.
