MART di Rovereto and Castello del Buonconsiglio open director applications
The MART museum in Rovereto and the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento have published a joint call for new directors, with applications due by March 25, 2025. The decision marks a shift after years of interim leadership: since 2020, administrative director Diego Ferretti has held the role ad interim under president Vittorio Sgarbi, who considered a full-time director unnecessary. The MART, designed by Mario Botta and Giulio Andreolli, also oversees the Casa d'Arte Futurista Depero and the Galleria Civica di Trento, attracting over 200,000 visitors in 2024, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The call requires candidates to have managerial and art-historical skills, fundraising experience, and knowledge of local cultural heritage, with an annual gross salary of €116,000. Critics note the short 20-day application window and the absence of a project proposal requirement, which may deter high-profile candidates. The selection process will conclude within 90 days, aiming to appoint a director by summer 2025. For the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the new director will replace Laura dal Prà, whose term ends in April 2025, with similar requirements and salary.
