Marseille's Estaque, Giacometti Show, and Migration Garden

Marseille, known as 'the city of 110 villages,' includes the fishing village of L'Estaque, which inspired Impressionist, Proto-Cubist, Expressionist, and Fauvist artists like Paul Cézanne and Georges Braque. Today, filmmaker Robert Guédiguian sets his films there. The city also hosts a major Alberto Giacometti exhibition at the Musée Cantini this summer, featuring African and Greek masks and Egyptian statuary that influenced his work, including the record-breaking sculpture 'L'Homme qui marche' ($141 million). Additionally, the Jardin des Migrations, part of the MuCEM complex designed by Rudy Ricciotti and opened in 2013, spans over 10,000 square meters within Fort Saint-Jean. The garden includes themed areas like the Courtyard of Oranges, Myrtle Garden, and Saffron Garden, integrating contemporary art installations by Ghada Amer and exploring botanical traditions across Mediterranean cultures.
