Marmottan Monet Maps Landscape's Dark Turn from Monet to Hockney

From September 24, 2026, to January 31, 2027, the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris will present 'Histoires de paysages' (Landscape Stories) in honor of Claude Monet's centenary. This exhibition examines the impact of Impressionism on landscape painting, highlighting themes of historical violence and ecological crises. It showcases a range of artists, from Monet to modern figures such as David Hockney, Félix Vallotton, Nikita Kadan, Nicolas de Staël, Georgia O'Keeffe, Johanna Quillet, and Alex Katz, organized into eleven thematic sections. Notable pieces include Vallotton’s work on Verdun, Kadan’s depiction of Ukraine, and Quillet’s photograph of Sobibór, culminating with Katz's commentary on a world devoid of victories. The museum is located at 2 rue Louis-Boilly, 75016 Paris, and operates Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm, with extended hours on Thursdays until 9 pm. Admission costs €14, with a reduced rate of €9, and free entry for children under 7.
