Marmottan Monet and Grenoble Museums Co-Organize Landscape Survey from Monet to Hockney

The Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris and the Musée de Grenoble are jointly organizing a major exhibition titled "Histoires de paysages (1890-2026)" that examines the evolution of landscape art from the late 19th century to the present. The show opens in Paris from September 24, 2026 to January 31, 2027, then travels to Grenoble from March 5 to July 4, 2027. It features over 100 works across painting, photography, sculpture, and video, structured in eleven thematic sections. The exhibition argues that landscape is not merely a genre but a visual narrative of modernity, reflecting war, memory, identity, and utopia. Key works include Claude Monet's "Nymphéas" (1916-1919), donated to France on November 11, 1918; Félix Vallotton's "Verdun" (1917); Edvard Munch's "Nuit d'hiver" (1923); Caroline Bachmann's "Lune rousse reflet" (2022); and Walker Evans's photographs from the Arthurdale project (1935). The show spans from 1890 to 2026, linking modernist experiments with contemporary practices.
