Markus Brunetti's Monumental Photos of European Churches at Yossi Milo

exhibition · 2026-05-11

Bavarian photographer Markus Brunetti has spent over two decades documenting Europe's most impressive basilicas, monasteries, and cathedrals. Working with collaborator Betty Schöner, they travel in a firetruck converted into a photo lab, taking thousands of images of each structure over several years. Through meticulous editing, Brunetti creates composite images with a striking one-point perspective, correcting the oblique view we normally see. His current solo exhibition, "Facades IV" at Yossi Milo in New York City, features recent portraits including "Roma, Basilica di San Pietro," which took 19 years to complete with seven visits to St. Peter's Basilica. The prints are up to seven-and-a-half feet tall. The exhibition runs through June 20.
