Marko Peljhan to Represent Slovenia at 2019 Venice Biennale
Slovenia will be represented by Marko Peljhan at the 58th Venice Biennale, taking place from May 11 to November 24, 2019. The Slovenian Pavilion, curated by Igor Španjol, will feature 'Here we go again… SYSTEM 317,' which tackles pressing societal issues such as environmental crises and the control of information. Peljhan’s artistic approach combines technology, science, and art, examining themes of political, economic, and military influence, along with surveillance. He established Projekt Atol in 1994 and co-founded Ljudmila in 1995. His prominent work, Makrolab, was showcased at documenta 10 in 1997. At the Biennale, he will unveil a piece from the Resolution series, depicting a pirate-like vessel symbolizing global decline. Kazakhstan has withdrawn due to budget cuts.
