Mark Menjívar's Midcareer Survey 'Murmurations' at Contemporary at Blue Star
The exhibition 'Murmurations' by Mark Menjívar at the Contemporary at Blue Star in San Antonio showcases a retrospective of his social practice spanning two decades. It includes over ten projects involving more than 2,000 participants gathered through everyday interactions. Menjívar combines art with social work, employing photography and oral histories to tackle issues such as food insecurity, immigration, and capital punishment. Key works include refrigerator photographs initiated in 2006 and the 'Luck Archive' featuring found objects. After living through civil conflicts in Central America and studying social work at Baylor University, Menjívar returned to San Antonio in 2004. Curated by Jack, the exhibition will be on display until May 3, 2026, with new fridge photographs introduced in January 2026.
