Mark Lubell Named Executive Director of Sag Harbor Cinema

Mark Lubell, former executive director of the International Center of Photography (ICP), has been appointed executive director of Sag Harbor Cinema, a Hamptons institution endorsed by Steven Spielberg. Lubell, who spent summers in nearby Noyack and now owns a home in Sag Harbor, aims to recreate the inclusive atmosphere of local spots like Murf's Backstreet Tavern. His career includes revamping Magnum Photos' business model and leading ICP's $90 million new campus on Ludlow Street, which opened in January 2020 and closed seven weeks later due to the pandemic. At Sag Harbor Cinema, creative director Giulia D'Agnolo Vallan is programming a film noir summer series featuring Blue Velvet and The Great Gatsby. Spielberg has praised the theater's sound and projection quality. Lubell emphasizes cinema as a space for shared human experiences across political and economic divides.
