Mark Leckey to Install Full-Scale Motorway Bridge Inside Tate Britain
Mark Leckey, the 2008 Turner Prize winner, will reconstruct a full-scale motorway bridge inside Tate Britain for his solo exhibition 'O’ Magic Power of Bleakness,' opening September 24 and running through January 2020. The bridge, a replica of the M53 near Birkenhead where Leckey grew up, will serve as the set for a new audio piece about teenage life. The exhibition will also feature iconic videos like 'Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore' (1999) and 'Dream English Kid 1964–1999 AD' (2015), alongside new works. Curated by Clarrie Wallis with Aïcha Mehrez, the show will include a catalog and a program of events. Leckey, known for exploring pop culture and technology through memory and autobiography, has exhibited at MoMA, Serpentine Gallery, Venice Biennale, and Gwangju Biennale. A concurrent William Blake exhibition at Tate Britain will also be held, as Blake is a stated inspiration for Leckey.
