Mark Leckey's First Austrian Solo Exhibition at Vienna's Secession Explores Visual Obsessions
Mark Leckey's first solo exhibition in Austria, titled 'We Transfer', took place at the Secession in Vienna from September 11 to November 1, 2015. The exhibit showcased ten LED screens displaying looping visuals, such as a leg in fishnet stockings, animated figures, and a digital phallic object inspired by Herman Makkink's 1969 Rocking Machine. Leckey referred to this collection as an 'autistic grid' filled with visual remnants. He shared the space with Alessandro Raho, who presented painted canvases. Additionally, a side room featured 'The Ecstasy of Always Bursting Forth' (2013), highlighting a polka-dotted drag performer. The exhibition also included screenings of Leckey's previous films and a new piece inspired by Louise Bourgeois's 1984 work, examining the intersection of object personification and technology in shaping human identity.
