Mark Dion's Taxidermy of Error at Carré d'Art Nîmes

From February 7 to April 22, 2007, Carré d'Art – Musée d'art contemporain de Nîmes showcases Mark Dion's exhibition titled 'The Natural History of the Museum,' curated by Françoise Cohen. This exhibition will subsequently move to Dunkers Kulturhus in Sweden from May 25 to August 26, 2007, and then to Kulturzentrum Seedamm in Switzerland from September 15 to November 11, 2007. Dion examines 19th-century scientific classification through outdated displays, featuring five sections: geology, entomology, archaeology, ornithology, and mammalogy, along with museum history. Highlights include 'A Meter of Jungle' (1995) and 'Taxonomy of Non-Endangered Species' (1990). Born in New Bedford in 1962, Dion currently resides in New York. His recent solo exhibitions include 'The South Florida Wildlife Rescue Unit' (2006) and 'Seattle Vivarium' (2007).
