Mark Bradford Designs New Logo for ICA LA
Mark Bradford, the Los Angeles-based artist and philanthropist born in 1961, has designed the new logo and visual identity for the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA). The museum, formerly the Santa Monica Museum of Art, is relocating to downtown LA's art district at 1717 East Seventh Street, with a new building designed by Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY architecture. The move is expected by fall 2017. The board unanimously selected Bradford for the rebranding, which coincides with the museum's new name and location. Bradford has a long history with the institution: his 2001 exhibition "Freestyle," curated by Thelma Golden of the Studio Museum in Harlem, debuted there. Meanwhile, Bradford has been announced as the US representative for the 2017 Venice Biennale, a project organized by the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University in collaboration with the US Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
