institutional · 2026-04-27

Marjiana Kolarić has been appointed as the new director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade (MoCAB), becoming the third woman to lead the institution. The museum's council unanimously elected her based on a four-year development plan. Kolarić holds a degree in art history from the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Philosophy (2010) and previously worked as an expert associate in the municipal administration of Pančevo. She has curated exhibitions domestically and internationally, including 'Voyage: A Journey through Contemporary Serbian Art' in Shanghai (2017-2018) and served as a selector for the 17th SEE Art Gates Biennale. She co-founded the November gallery with Srdjan Shaper and has been a council member of the 58th October Salon since 2019. Her plan focuses on six points: collection improvement, exhibition content enhancement, staff retraining, international cooperation, audience engagement, and sustainability. Key priorities include digitizing the collection of over 8,500 works of Serbian and Yugoslav art, reopening after a decade-long renovation, and fostering partnerships with international museums. Kolarić aims to position MoCAB as a hub for critical thinking and contemporary art, emphasizing interactive digital experiences and long-term strategic planning.
