Marisol Mendez Wins 2026 Saltzman-Leibovitz Photography Prize
Bolivian artist Marisol Mendez has been awarded the 2026 Saltzman-Leibovitz Photography Prize for her series MADRE. The prize, founded in 2025 by photographers Lisa Saltzman and Annie Leibovitz, includes a cash award of $15,000. Mendez's winning work will be exhibited at Photo London from May 13 to 17 alongside other nominated artists. Born and based in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Mendez's research-driven practice examines Andean folklore, Catholic iconography, and contemporary Bolivian identity, often incorporating archival family photographs. She cited Annie Leibovitz's images as an inspiration for embracing fiction and storytelling. Miranda Barnes received second place; other nominees included Cole Ndelu, Lindeka Qampi, and Bettina Pittaluga.
