Marisa Mori: Futurist artist who broke with movement over racial laws
Marisa Mori (1900–1985), born Maria Luisa Lurini in Florence, was a Futurist painter who later abandoned the movement in protest of Italy's 1938 racial laws. She trained under Felice Casorati in Turin from 1925 to 1931, then embraced Futurism, contributing a recipe to Marinetti and Fillia's 1932 'La cucina futurista'. Her work included radio-themed paintings and the triptych 'Sintesi del golfo', which won third prize at the Premio Golfo di La Spezia. She exhibited at the 1934 Venice Biennale, the 1937 'Les femmes artistes d'Europe' at Jeu de Paume, and the 1939 Metropolitan Museum show. After opposing the racial laws, she hosted Rita and Gino Levi Montalcini and returned to classical figuration following her husband's death in 1943.
