Mario Rimoldi Museum in Cortina Celebrates 50 Years

The Museo Mario Rimoldi in Cortina d'Ampezzo marks its 50th anniversary with an exhibition titled 'La storia della collezione Rimoldi a Cortina: una favola d’Ampezzo, 1974-2024'. The museum, one of Italy's first private museums, was founded in 1974 after the collection of hotelier and politician Mario Rimoldi was bequeathed to the Regole d'Ampezzo by his wife Rosa Braun. Rimoldi began collecting in the 1920s, initially focusing on 19th-century Italian artists like Morelli and Gigante, but his encounter with Filippo de Pisis in 1929 shifted his focus to contemporary art. His collection grew to include works by Arturo Martini, Emilio Vedova, Renato Guttuso, and Zoran Music, among others. The museum, managed by the Regole d'Ampezzo—an ancient communal property system—has hosted significant exhibitions and conferences, and has embraced digital initiatives. The anniversary exhibition was curated by the museum's Cultural Commission.
