Mario Nigro Retrospective at Fondazione Ragghianti in Lucca
On September 29, 2017, Fondazione Ragghianti in Lucca will unveil a significant retrospective of Mario Nigro (Pistoia, 1917 – Livorno, 1992). Curated by Paolo Bolpagni and Francesca Pola, in partnership with the Archivio Mario Nigro, the exhibition chronicles Nigro's artistic journey from his abstract beginnings in 1948 to his last works in 1992. A co-founder of the Gruppo artistico moderno (G.A.M.) alongside Voltolino Fontani, he later became part of Gillo Dorfles' Movimento Arte Concreta (MAC). The exhibit features over sixty pieces, showcasing interactions with artists like Max Bill and Sol LeWitt. Nigro exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1964 and 1968, despite a serious car accident in 1960. The show will be open until January 7, 2018, before moving to Switzerland from March 18 to September 2, 2018. A bilingual catalog will include essays by Pola, Bolpagni, and Mattia Patti. This retrospective follows earlier exhibitions on Luigi Veronesi (2011-2012) and Mario Ballocco (2016).
