Mario Martone on His First Contemporary Art Museum Show and Upcoming Beuys-Inspired Film

Italian director Mario Martone shares insights about his exhibition "1977 2018. Mario Martone Museo Madre" at Naples' Madre museum, which he curated alongside Gianluca Riccio. The installation includes a video piece titled "Ritorno ad Alphaville," displayed across four screens with rotating chairs. The exhibition's name alludes to cyclical time by flipping numbers and incorporating the infinity symbol. Martone reminisces about his influential years in the late 1970s and his connection to gallerist Lucio Amelio, known for showcasing artists such as Joseph Beuys and Cy Twombly. He fondly recalls visiting the Sibyl's Cave at the age of sixteen and his involvement with the group Falso Movimento. The exhibition also reintroduces "Tango Glaciale," which premiered at the Ravenna Festival on July 1 and will appear at Roma Europa in October. Additionally, his forthcoming film "Capri Batterie" delves into Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach's idealistic community.
