Mario Lanfranchi retrospective opens at APE Museo in Parma

The exhibition 'Le molte vite di Mario Lanfranchi. La casa in scena' at APE Museo in Parma celebrates the multifaceted career of the late director Mario Lanfranchi (Parma, 1927 – Rome, 2022). Curated by Valeria Ottolenghi, the show features documentary materials including photographs, objects, posters, and screenings of his films 'La traviata' with Anna Moffo and 'Venezia, carnevale, un amore' starring Carla Fracci and Rudolf Nureyev. Lanfranchi was a prolific director in opera, television, film, and theatre, known for his 1956 television production of 'Madama Butterfly' that launched Anna Moffo's career. He was also a major post-war art collector, acquiring works by Ron Arad and others, and befriended Bernardo Bertolucci. His villa in Santa Maria del Piano (Lesignano de' Bagni, Parma) hosted summer 'Feste in villa' events. The Fondazione Mario Lanfranchi, established posthumously, organizes the 'Piaceri d'Arte' festival. The exhibition has been extended to allow Festival Verdi attendees to visit.
