Mario Dondero's Unseen Theater and Economy Photos at Fermo

The exhibition 'Mario Dondero. Le fotografie ritrovate. Inediti dall’archivio della vita' at the Terminal of Fermo presents rediscovered photographs by Mario Dondero (1928–2015), spanning his work as a theater photographer and photojournalist. The show is divided into sections, including 'Il Grande Teatro del Mondo' featuring unpublished shots of Italian and French theater performances, and 'Borsa valori' with images critiquing consumer society. Dondero captured expressions, gestures, and makeup of actors, as seen in 'Commedia in Commedia' by company Lo Spacco directed by Vito Minoia. He also photographed the Comédie-Italienne directed by Attilio Maggiulli. The photojournalism sections 'Cuba' and 'Africa' evoke the style of Cartier Bresson, André Friedman, and Robert Capa of Magnum Photos (1947). Works like 'Turisti a Cuba' and 'Acquisto dei famosi sigari' depict a world of poetic and economic contradictions. The 'Borsa valori' section includes a quote from Paolo Volponi's novel 'Le mosche del capitale' about money becoming the only material. The exhibition layout uses beige brick lines and a conical pillar in the waiting room, with prints displayed in a bus station setting, echoing the guiding image 'Sorrisi dall’autobus'. The show also features portraits of writers and theater actors at the Fototeca Provinciale di Fermo.
