Mario Consiglio's Black Foam Sculptures at Spazio Rivoluzione in Palermo

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Mario Consiglio (Maglie, 1968; lives between Berlin and Perugia) presents an exhibition at Spazio Rivoluzione in Palermo, a small independent space run by artist Adalberto Abbate (Palermo, 1975). The show features sculptures made of black foam rubber, incorporating fragments of poetry by Davide Banda, whom Consiglio met over thirty years ago at the Accademia di Urbino, where both studied under Pier Paolo Calzolari. Banda, a brilliant poet who rejected the art market, never published his collections. Consiglio transforms Banda's verses into three-dimensional works, displayed along worn walls. The installation includes two original electronic music tracks titled 'Datevi fuoco' by producer Gianmaria Coccoluto (Rome, 1994), son of the late DJ Claudio Coccoluto. The works reference graffiti culture, antisystem militancy, and contemporary tragedies, with phrases like 'Please cop don't kill my son on a sunny day.' The exhibition runs at Spazio Rivoluzione, an ex-warehouse in the historic center of Palermo.
