Mario Carlo Iusi's Light Installations Illuminate Ancient Walls in Alatri and Albano Laziale

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Artist Mario Carlo Iusi (born 1995 in Alatri) presents Luminis, a project of large-scale LED light installations that frame ancient megalithic walls and Roman cisterns in two Lazio towns. Curated by Claudia Pecoraro, the intervention spans two phases: Alatri's Mura Megalitiche (September 14–October 6, 2024) and Albano Laziale's Cisternoni (October 26–November 17, 2024). The 360 meters of variable-sized LED frames are positioned to highlight architectural vestiges, shifting viewer perception. The project debuted after a residency at Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella, where Iusi experimented with new techniques. Concurrently, a monographic exhibition titled Semeion runs at Chiostro di San Francesco in Alatri until October 6, featuring forty unpublished works from 2020 centered on the pumpkin seed motif. The project will travel to Barcelona's Espronceda – Institute of Art & Culture for talks and workshops.
