Marinella Senatore's Procession for 100+ People on Hudson River

On November 16, Italian artist Marinella Senatore (born 1977 in Cava de' Tirreni) will lead a procession of over 100 local participants through Cold Spring, New York, organized by Magazzino Italian Art. The site-specific performance, curated by Ylinka Barotto, involves musicians, dancers, activists, and amateurs who responded to an open call and attended preparatory workshops. Senatore, founder of the School of Narrative Dance (established 2013), uses processions as a form of collective storytelling and political assembly, drawing from religious rituals, carnivals, and parades but without religious content. Her multidisciplinary practice blends violin, cinema, dance, and theater. She won the Premio New York in 2010, which connected her with Harlem communities, Black Lives Matter, and the Martha Graham School. Her works are currently exhibited at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura as part of a group show of Premio New York winners. Senatore has worked with over six million people across 23 countries, emphasizing empowerment and emancipation through participatory art. She rejects the concept of 'mass' in favor of 'assembly,' where individual identities contribute to a collective narrative. Her performance at Cold Spring will include fixed stations and movement, with the audience naturally integrated. Senatore views performance as a commercial product, selling protocols for reenactment.
