Marinella Senatore's participatory installation at Palazzo Strozzi

Marinella Senatore's installation 'We Rise by Lifting Others' at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence explores relational art through a light-filled pinwheel that can be viewed from near and far, fostering a sense of community. The project's title quotes American politician Robert Ingersoll, famously worn on a pacifist protester's T-shirt in the 1970s. As part of the initiative, online workshops led by Nandhan Molinaro and Elisa Zucchetti of the Berlin-based collective ESPZ engaged over 150 participants, including groups, institutions, associations, students, day center and nursing home users, inmates of Sollicciano prison, teachers, volunteers, and artists. The workshops were designed specifically for digital distance sharing, not as an online transposition of a live experience. Participants, many with no dance background, followed small, specific choreographic actions after warm-up exercises, creating relational dynamics and moments of freedom at home. Following the Zoom sessions, three tutorial videos were created; the public can now follow the actions, record a video, and share it on Palazzo Strozzi's page. Senatore's work treats human bodies as 'energetic movement and shared narrative.'
