Marinella Senatore's Luminous Installation at Palazzo Strozzi
Marinella Senatore's large-scale light installation 'We Rise by Lifting Others' is on display in the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi in Florence until February 7, 2021. The work, over ten meters tall and composed of hundreds of LED lights, draws inspiration from the traditional luminarie of southern Italy and was produced in collaboration with Apulian artisans. Senatore, a prominent Italian artist known for participatory projects and founder of the School of Narrative Dance, reflects on art as social activation and community building after a year of isolation. The installation is accompanied by a digital workshop program on language and the body, involving over 100 participants selected from previous Palazzo Strozzi initiatives, including high school and university students, day center and nursing home attendees, and inmates of the Sollicciano prison. A public online conversation series features Senatore and director Arturo Galansino in dialogue with international cultural figures such as curator Chus Martínez, the collective Pussy Riot, Dior's Maria Grazia Chiuri, and economist Pier Luigi Sacco. The installation is free and visible daily from 9 AM to 8 PM.
