Marinella Senatore's installation transforms Piazza Venezia metro construction site into open-air theater

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Marinella Senatore's site-specific installation 'Ci eleviamo sollevando gli altri' has been unveiled on the ten silos of the Line C metro construction site in Piazza Venezia, Rome. The work, part of the MURALES public art project promoted by Webuild with the patronage of Roma Capitale and the relevant Superintendencies, covers 640 square meters. Senatore's piece interprets the construction site as a theatrical stage, using light, vibrant colors, and dynamic elements to evoke a magic lantern effect. The installation will be visible for four months before being replaced by a new work. The MURALES project will continue until 2026, with six artists contributing. Pietro Ruffo's 'Costellazioni di Roma' preceded Senatore's work, displayed from December 2025 until recently. Webuild CEO Pietro Salini stated that the installation reflects the fusion of art, engineering, and technology, as seen in the Line C stations like Piazza Venezia, Porta Metronia, and Colosseo/Fori Imperiali, which are designed as museum stations. The project involves excavation up to 85 meters deep while preserving archaeological finds.
