Marinella Senatore culminates Paris residency with parade at Centre Pompidou

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Italian artist Marinella Senatore (b. 1977) will present a large parade at the Centre Pompidou in Paris on July 2, 2017, as the culmination of her month-long residency. The project is part of The School of Narrative Dance (SOND), which won the MAXXI Prize. Senatore has been conducting free workshops throughout June in Paris, inviting visitors to participate by presenting a short choreography. The parade will start from the square in front of the Centre Pompidou at 4:30 PM and feature diverse choreographies ranging from Congolese dance to contemporary dance and boxing. The work builds on her earlier success with "La Piazza Universale/Social Stages" at the Queens Museum in New York, curated by Matteo Lucchetti. Senatore has lived abroad since 2005, moving from Italy to Madrid, New York, London, California, Berlin, and now Paris. She criticizes the lack of support for Italian artists and the fiscal system that does not recognize artists as a national asset, but affirms the political importance of working in Italy.
