Marina Paris Examines Gio Ponti's Mathematics Building in Rome Exhibition
Marina Paris (born 1965, Sassoferrato) presents 'Micro_Zone' at MLAC – Museo Laboratorio d'Arte Contemporanea della Sapienza in Rome, curated by Ilaria Schiaffini. The exhibition features fifteen macro-photographs that explore Gio Ponti's Scuola di Matematica building at the Città universitaria di Roma, part of Marcello Piacentini's unitary plan. Paris's images capture the curved lateral bodies, symmetrical volumes, and light-shadow contrasts of the building, notably devoid of human presence—a condition echoing the 2019 health emergency. Also on view is an enlarged 1941 postcard of the Mathematics School and the university entrance, with a marble plaque reproducing the original message. A series of collages using 1940s-1950s postcards documents the university's redevelopment, highlighting temporal and spatial ruptures. The exhibition runs at MLAC in 2022.
