Marina Abramović Stages Cosmic Eye Set for Pelléas et Mélisande in Geneva Through November 2025

other · 2026-04-19

At the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Marina Abramović has created the scenography for Claude Debussy's opera Pelléas et Mélisande, which will run until November 4, 2025. The production showcases choreography by Damien Jalet and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, featuring the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève alongside the Eastman Dance Company. Abramović's set, designed to look like a massive eye, incorporates NASA visuals and large white crystals. The cast includes Mari Eriksmoen as Mélisande, Björn Bürger as Pelléas, and Leigh Melrose as Golaud, with Juraj Valčuha conducting. Eight male dancers convey 'mobility of souls' through fluid movements. Future performances include Vanessa Wagner's Philip Glass concert on November 7, 2025, and Wajdi Mouawad's Iphigénie en Tauride from November 2 to 12, 2025.
