Marina Abramović's Blue and Red Period performances transformed into 1,200 photographic stills at Saatchi Yates

exhibition · 2026-03-15

From October 1 to 31, 2025, Saatchi Yates in London will present an exhibition featuring 1,200 photographic stills from Marina Abramović's performance videos, Blue Period and Red Period. Born in 1946 in Belgrade, Abramović has transformed contemporary art through her focus on endurance and intimacy, with significant pieces such as Rhythm 0 (1974) and The Artist Is Present (2010). Her collaboration with Ulay from 1976 to 1988 resulted in The Lovers (1988) on the Great Wall of China. This exhibition encourages contemplative interaction, highlighting Red Period's examination of femininity and Blue Period's emphasis on vulnerability. These works are part of her 16-channel Video Portrait Gallery (1975–2002) and have previously been shown at Kunstmuseum Bern and the Museum of Old and New Art (2015).
