Marina Abramović on Alberto Giacometti at Louisiana Museum

exhibition · 2026-04-27

In a recent interview at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen, Marina Abramović (born 1946, Belgrade) described Alberto Giacometti's (1901–1966) sculptures as "a meteorite from another galaxy, where all matter is condensed inside." The conversation, conducted by Christian Lund last month, took place at the Danish museum, which will host Abramović's major retrospective "The Cleaner" from June 17 to October 22, 2017. The exhibition, spanning fifty years of the Serbian artist's career, is organized in collaboration with the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, where it is currently on view. In the video, Abramović discusses her affinity with Giacometti's art, citing its ability to sublimate matter and communicate through pure energy.
