Marina Abramović launches first NFT collection 'The Hero 25FPS' on CIRCA

digital · 2026-04-27

Marina Abramović is releasing her first NFT collection titled 'The Hero 25FPS' in collaboration with CIRCA, launching July 25 on the Tezos blockchain. The collection derives from her 2001 video work 'The Hero', a personal piece filmed after her father's death. The original work is being projected nightly at 20:22 for three months on CIRCA's global screen network including Piccadilly Lights in London, Seoul, Milan, Berlin, Japan, and New York. Abramović emphasized the importance of accessibility and environmental sustainability, choosing Tezos for its low energy consumption. The NFT collection comprises previously unseen single frames in jpg and multiple frames in gif format, with a random selection of collectors receiving a signed lenticular print. The artist described the NFT project as an unexpected development that emerged from post-production work to adapt the original PAL-format footage for Piccadilly Circus's widescreen display, a process that took months. Abramović, now 75, stated that artists should never stop taking risks and that the work aims to communicate with a younger generation unfamiliar with the original piece.
