Marina Abramović Gets Major Retrospective at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

exhibition · 2026-04-27

From March 16 to July 14, 2024, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam will host an extensive retrospective of Marina Abramović, marking the largest exhibition of her work in the Netherlands to date. This follows a notable exhibition of her former partner Ulay in 2020. Collaborating closely with Abramović and the Royal Academy of London, the show will feature over 60 pieces spanning five decades. Among the highlights are recordings of her famous performances, along with photographs, videos, sculptures, and live re-enactments of four key works that debuted in the Netherlands. Visitors can also interact with two installations, including Work Relation (with Ulay, 1978) and Counting the Rice. Director Rein Wolfs noted Abramović's deep ties to Amsterdam and the museum's importance in performance art.
