Marie Farrington's 'Diagonal Acts' at Kunstverein Aughrim explores geological and archaeological materials

exhibition · 2026-04-20

From 1 March to 31 May 2025, Irish artist Marie Farrington will showcase 'Diagonal Acts' at Kunstverein Aughrim. This exhibition highlights understated sculptures alongside a prominent granite boulder, a concept proposed by curator-director Kate Strain. Featured pieces include 'Slides and Registers' (2025), which consists of small slumped glass panels, and 'Toolkit re-membered', a collection of delicate, custom tools intended for archaeological exploration. The title embodies Farrington's non-linear creative approach, incorporating collaborations such as technical drawings and a vinyl decal from Trinity College, Dublin. The exhibition delves into the dynamics of construction versus deconstruction, with items displayed on concrete floors and wooden shelving, reflecting themes of geology and archaeology. It will be reviewed in the Summer 2025 edition of ArtReview, based on Declan Long's article.
