Mariano Fortuny Exhibition at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, is hosting a major exhibition dedicated to Mariano Fortuny (1871–1949), the Spanish-born artist-designer deeply connected to Venice. Titled "Mariano Fortuny. The Magician of Venice," the show runs until March 12, 2017, in the General Staff Building. It features over 200 works, including garments, costumes, drawings, textiles, paintings, sculptures, photographs, and decorative objects. The exhibition is a collaboration between the Hermitage and the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, directed by Gabriella Belli, with support from Villaggio Globale International and under the patronage of Ermitage Italia. Hermitage director Mikhail Piotrovsky oversaw the project. Mariacristina Gribaudi, President of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, called it an international operation of great prestige. Fortuny's legacy is preserved in Venice at the Museo Fortuny, his former home-studio, which has hosted acclaimed exhibitions curated by Daniela Ferretti and collector Axel Vervoordt, including "Artempo" (2007), "In-finitum" (2009), and "TRA" (2011).
