Mariannita Luzzati's 'Possible Landscapes' Retrospective Opens at Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz

Mariannita Luzzati presents a retrospective exhibition titled 'Possible Landscapes' at the Instituto Figueiredo Ferraz in Ribeirão Preto. The show features 23 paintings, including 18 large-scale and five smaller works, created between 1990 and 2021. Six pieces belong to the Figueiredo Ferraz collection. Luzzati, a painter who began exhibiting in the late 1980s, has focused on Brazilian landscapes for the past two decades. Her technique involves multiple thin layers of oil paint that create optical diffraction, resulting in blurred, undefined images. The artist describes her work as an attempt to preserve a singular 'image moment' and remove urban elements to return landscapes to a natural state. She notes a more specific and less casual search for color in her recent work compared to the past. The exhibition is part of the institute's tenth-anniversary celebrations, which also include the shows 'I Photograph What I Don't See' and 'In White.' The IFF, founded in 2011 by the late cultural enthusiast João Carlos Figueiredo Ferraz, houses over 1,000 works from the Figueiredo Ferraz couple's collection and has welcomed more than 50,000 visitors since its inception.
