Marianne Boesky Gallery presents Xenia exhibition exploring portrait painting diversity
Marianne Boesky Gallery is hosting Xenia: Crossroads in Portrait Painting, a group exhibition exploring the ancient Greek concept of guest-friendship through diverse portrait approaches. The show features works by multiple artists including Ghanaian painter Amoako Boafo, whose neo-secessionist style channels Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. Doron Langberg contributes a monumental group portrait set on Fire Island dunes that examines emotional complexities. Robin F. Williams presents two imaginary portraits of Siri, possibly representing Apple's AI in robotic stylization. The exhibition includes portraits by artists, of artists, self-portraits, and fictional personas, celebrating varied intentions and styles. It runs until February 1, 2025. David Cohen reviewed the exhibition for artcritical, noting specific works like Langberg's Drawing Mike (2019), an oil and color pencil on linen piece measuring 80 x 192 inches, courtesy of Yossi Milo Gallery in New York.
