publication · 2026-04-20

Marian Pastor Roces has released her debut collection of essays, 'Gathering: Political Writing on Art and Culture,' which includes 43 pieces from her extensive career. This work marks the first publication under a new project by the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. An art critic since the Marcos era, Roces emphasizes the deep connection between art and life. The anthology, named after a 1991 exhibition-text co-created with curator Beth Jackson, is arranged chronologically, beginning with 'Old Photographs, Recuerdos Tristes' (1974). Roces critiques notable art figures and institutions while reflecting on the Philippines' political turmoil. The collection was featured in the Winter 2019 edition of ArtReview Asia.
