Marian Goodman Gallery relocates to historic Tribeca warehouse

Marian Goodman Gallery is moving from its Upper East Side location to the Grosvenor Building at 385 Broadway in Tribeca, a late-19th-century industrial warehouse renovated by Studio MDA. The new 30,000-square-foot space spans five floors with exhibition areas, private rooms, a library, archive, offices, and art storage. The Upper East Side gallery closed on July 12, 2024, with staff working remotely until September when they begin moving in. The official opening is October 26, 2024, featuring a group show of fifty gallery artists, including An-My Lê, Tacita Dean, Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Pierre Huyghe, and Marcel Broodthaers. The exhibition runs through December 21, 2024, and aims to celebrate the gallery's history while marking a new chapter. Managing partner Rose Lord notes the show will use all spaces, including those not normally open to the public, to present the entire roster democratically. The move places the gallery among other Tribeca art spaces like 52 Walker (David Zwirner), 125 Newbury (Pace Gallery), PPOW Gallery, Andrew Kreps, and Mendes Wood DM. Gallery president Philipp Kaiser, one of five partners appointed by founder Marian Goodman, describes the move as looking back and forward simultaneously. The gallery was founded in 1977 and also has locations in Paris and Los Angeles.
