Marian Goodman closes London gallery due to pandemic and Brexit

institutional · 2026-04-27

Marian Goodman, a prominent gallerist in the U.S., will shut down her London gallery at the close of 2020, influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit's repercussions on the art market. Having launched her initial gallery in New York in 1977, she has showcased artists such as Gerhard Richter and Maurizio Cattelan. The London location, established in 2014, will transition into Marian Goodman Projects, which aims to host exhibitions in various venues throughout London. This new venture will be directed by Goodman and Philipp Kaiser, supported by a small team led by Aebhric Coleman. The inaugural project is scheduled for autumn 2021, with aspirations to extend to international cities in response to changing interests.
