Maria Yolanda Liebana's First Solo Museum Show at Montclair State University Galleries

Montclair State University Galleries will present Maria Yolanda Liebana: A Place to Be Held, the artist's first solo museum exhibition, from September 15 through December 11, 2026, at the George Segal Gallery. The show features painting, sculpture, and immersive installation, including three site-specific commissions that transform the gallery into imagined environments exploring motherhood, spirituality, identity, and belonging. Liebana, a first-generation Latinx artist raised in Paterson, New Jersey, draws on personal experience, ancient mythology, Catholic imagery, Tarot, art history, and contemporary popular culture. Her richly layered works incorporate materials such as pearls, glitter, sequins, mirrored surfaces, beads, wallpaper, and rhinestones, blurring boundaries between the sacred and the everyday.
