Maria Thereza Alves unveils Pluriversal Recapturing in Canelli, a living ecosystem artwork
Brazilian artist Maria Thereza Alves, born in 1961 in São Paulo, has launched her project Pluriversal Recapturing (Riconquiste pluriversali) at the Moncalvina site in Canelli, Italy. This event coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Vineyard Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato's inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The initiative, curated by Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, received backing from the Fondo Unico Nazionale per il Turismo (FUNT). Alves has constructed a micro-ecosystem featuring tufa walls and seeds from local plants, intended to develop organically. The installation emphasizes ecological relationships, including those involving the Phengaris arion butterfly and Myrmica sabuleti ants. Canelli has also been designated a 'Sister Capital' of Alba Capitale dell'Arte Contemporanea 2027, with documentation provided by Alberto Nidola.
