Maria Thereza Alves and Don Genaro Amaro Altamirano in Conversation at Whitechapel Gallery
On Saturday, February 10, Brazilian artist Maria Thereza Alves will engage in a discussion about her 2012 initiative, 'The Return of a Lake,' alongside museum director Don Genaro Amaro Altamirano at London’s Whitechapel Gallery. This event, part of the Exhibition Histories series and co-organized with Afterall, delves into themes of ecology, indigenous land rights, and the community museum as a form of resistance, created in partnership with the Museo Comunitario del Valle de Xico, Mexico. Ana Bilbao, an editor and researcher, will moderate the conversation. Scheduled from 15:00 to 16:30 in the Zilkha Auditorium, tickets are priced at £9.50 (£7.50 for concessions). Two Afterall articles by Irmgard Emmelhainz and Pablo Lafuente with Michelle Sommer are available online in advance. The Exhibition Histories initiative is a collaborative effort by Afterall and the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, supported by the British Council and distributed by Koenig Books, London.
