Maria Pinińska-Bereś Retrospective at Kunstmuseum Den Haag

The retrospective of Polish artist Maria Pinińska-Bereś is currently on display at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, running until August 17, 2025. This exhibition is a collaborative effort involving the National Museum Wrocław in Poland, the Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst Leipzig in Germany, and Kunstmuseum Den Haag. Born in Poznań, Poland, in 1931, Pinińska-Bereś is recognized for her feminist sculptures and performances that confront conventional gender norms. Notable works include 'Machine of Love' (1969), 'My Enchanting Little Room' (1975), 'Venus of the Sea Foam' (1977), and 'Mme Recamier' (1991). She also staged 'The Banner' (1980) in Kraków. Despite her impactful work, she did not have a museum retrospective during her lifetime and passed away in 1999. Today, her contributions are honored alongside feminist figures like Louise Bourgeois and Tracey Emin.
