Maria Mulas' Milan Portraits at Palazzo Reale
Palazzo Reale in Milan presents 'Maria Mulas. Milano, ritratti di fine '900', an exhibition of around 100 portraits from the 539 taken by photographer Maria Mulas (born 1935 in Manerba del Garda). The show captures Milan's cultural golden age from the 1970s to the 1990s, featuring architects, designers, artists, publishers, writers, and fashion figures. Mulas, nicknamed 'Coda rossa' for her red hair, used black-and-white Agfa Gevaert and Ilford FP4/HP4 film. Curated by Andrea Tomasetig, the exhibition includes self-portraits and works by her nephew Lorenzo Barbieri Hermitte. The installation, designed by Leo Guerra and Giovanni Renzi, incorporates Flos Toio lamps by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, which Mulas herself used. The show presents Milan as the true protagonist of an unrepeatable era, with Mulas as its visual memory.
