Maria Lind to Lead 11th Gwangju Biennale in 2016
Maria Lind has been named artistic director for the 11th Gwangju Biennale, scheduled from September 2 to November 6, 2016. She currently directs Tensta Kunsthall in Stockholm, a position she has held since 2011, and writes regularly for ArtReview. Lind holds an MA in art history and Russian from Stockholm University. Her curatorial career includes roles at Moderna Museet in Stockholm from 1997 to 2001 and board membership at IKT from 2006 to 2011. She received the Walter Hopps Award for curatorial achievement in 2009. Lind has participated in major international exhibitions such as Manifesta 2 in 1998, the Sweden Hall at the São Paulo Bienal in 2002, and the 1st Vienna Biennale Special Exhibition in 2015. She succeeds Jessica Morgan, whose previous edition, Burning Down the House, has been reviewed.
