Maria Lai's first virtual exhibition goes online during lockdown
During the COVID-19 lockdown, the Stazione dell'Arte di Ulassai in Sardinia has moved its exhibition 'Lente sul mondo' online, making it Maria Lai's first virtual show. The museum, dedicated to the Sardinian artist (1919–2013), joined the #iorestoacasa campaign launched by Mibact. The exhibition, which concluded the centenary celebrations of Lai's birth in December 2019, features over 20 autograph works, some shown for the first time, viewable in high resolution. A video narrative guides visitors through the show. Curator and museum director Davide Mariani noted that the exhibition's theme of macrocosms from microcosms, using Lai's hometown Ulassai as a metaphor for the world, resonates strongly in the current situation of physical distance and virtual proximity.
