Maria Laet's Dreamlike Works at Marília Razuk Gallery

Maria Laet presents a new exhibition at Galeria Marília Razuk, featuring eleven works including videos, photographs, monotypes, objects, and an installation. The show transforms into an intimate ceremony with nature, characterized by density and lightness. Videos guide viewers from optical to sensory experiences, with one featuring a tuba musician whose sealed instrument creates a concert through breathing. Another video blends natural procedures and poetics, focusing on a swaying coconut tree that breathes in rhythm with the musician. The installation invites public participation, with a small black-walled space and a floor filled with moving steel balls that enact the conquest of places. Laet's work generates poetry, as seen in a series of delicate blank-page "notebooks" conversing with other pieces like a photo of a forest surrounded by whitish mist. Her style dominates through shadow, light, and gesture. Laet is an admitted admirer of Cuban artist Ana Mendieta, who died mysteriously at age 37 after falling naked from the 33rd floor of a building in New York while married to American minimalist Carl Andre. Both artists work with land art, silence, and capture tensions of human existence in their environment. Laet is preparing to participate in the 33rd Bienal de São Paulo.
