Maria Cristina Didero Appointed Curatorial Director of Design Miami/ as Fair Expands to Paris

Design Miami/, the international design fair with editions in Miami and Basel, has appointed Italian curator Maria Cristina Didero as its new Curatorial Director, succeeding Wava Carpenter. Didero, based in Milan, will oversee the curatorial direction for all three fair editions: Basel (June 14–19, 2022), the newly launched Paris edition (October 2022), and Miami (December 2022). The Paris edition coincides with Art Basel's recent expansion into the French capital. CEO Jennifer Roberts stated that Paris "completes Design Miami/'s commitment to showcasing the best of historical and contemporary design." Didero has introduced a unifying theme for the three fairs: "The Golden Age," which she describes not as a reference to historical golden ages but as "a narrative device" envisioning a rebirth of arts, intellect, technology, and innovation after the pandemic. Didero is an independent curator, consultant, and author who has worked with institutions such as the National Building Museum in Washington DC, Design Museum Holon in Israel, and the Museum of Applied Arts in Dresden, as well as brands like Vitra, Fritz Hansen, Lexus, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Valextra, and Diesel. Current projects include "Ask Me if I Believe in the Future" at MK&G Hamburg (opening July 1, 2022), "VELENI (Poisons)" with Lanzavecchia + Wai at ICA Milan, and a project by Mathieu Lehanneur for MDW22.
